David Magerman, a well-known philanthropist and managing partner at Differential Ventures, is donating $1 million each to four major universities in Israel. His goal is to help students pursue science and technology degrees at these institutions. The universities receiving the donations are:
- Tel Aviv University
- Bar-Ilan University
- Technion-Israel Institute of Technology
- Jerusalem College of Technology
Magerman plans to continue supporting Israeli education through more donations in the future.

Shifting Focus to Israel
In an interview, Magerman shared his reasons for changing his focus from American universities to Israeli ones. He stated, “My plan is to redirect my philanthropic efforts going forward largely to Israel. I don’t see much value generated by giving to American universities.”
Criticism of American Universities
Magerman, who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University, has become critical of U.S. colleges, particularly Ivy League institutions. He expressed concerns about how these schools are preparing students for life after graduation.
- Flawed Education System: According to Magerman, many American colleges, especially liberal ones, do not adequately prepare students for real-world challenges.
- Call to Action for Jewish Donors: He encouraged other Jewish philanthropists to stop funding Ivy League schools, suggesting that efforts to reform these institutions are not worthwhile.
Supporting the Future of Israeli Education
By investing in Israeli academic institutions, Magerman aims to foster a stronger educational environment that better equips students in science and technology fields. He hopes that his contributions will help Israel continue to advance in these critical areas.
